Playing Vice City in 2026
Vice City came out in 2002, and I’m playing it in 2026. My PC can’t handle new releases, but this one runs without a fight, and it’s still fun.
Why it still works
The map is small enough to learn quickly, the soundtrack is full of 80s hits, and the missions are short and chaotic. Nothing in it needs a powerful graphics card, which is the main reason it’s on my machine.
Original or remastered?
The original PC version is the one that suits an old computer. The newer remastered release asks for a lot more from your hardware, so check its requirements before you buy anything.
The old graphics are part of it
The blocky characters and flat textures look dated, but they have a charm that sharper graphics don’t. After a while you stop noticing.
What I want to try next
Vice City has one of the longest-running mod scenes around, so there’s plenty to explore. Community fixes like SilentPatch are a popular starting point for stability and small bug fixes on the original version. I haven’t gone deep into mods yet, so I’ll write about what I try as I go, including what breaks.
If you’re on an old PC and want a game that just works, Vice City is a solid pick.
