The Witcher 4: What We Know and What’s Still Rumor
The Witcher 4 is a long way off and plans can still change. This is accurate as of Oct 16 2026.
Confirmed
Release window (platforms not finalized, 2028 target). CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO said in August that the game is targeting 2028. It’s a window, not a date.
Who you play (TBA). Ciri leads this one, first shown at The Game Awards 2024.
Scale (TBA). More than 500 people are working on it, and the studio calls it its biggest game yet.
Engine (TBA). The studio moved from its own REDengine to Unreal Engine 5.
Series plan (TBA). CD Projekt says it plans three Witcher games within six years.
Not confirmed
Platforms (TBA). I couldn’t find an official final list. PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are commonly listed, but sources disagree on whether that’s settled.
Date, price and gameplay (TBA). All we’ve seen is a tech demo from 2024.
Rumor territory
A 2027 release (no). CD Projekt wouldn’t name a year for a long time, then said 2028. Any 2027 talk has no official backing.
Reveal timing (TBA). One outlet guesses a gameplay trailer in mid to late 2027. That’s a guess.
Something to plan around
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past (expansion, 2027). It’s the next Witcher content with an actual year attached.
A note for a computer from 2017
My computer from 2017 can’t run new games, and an Unreal Engine 5 game from 2028 is a long shot. I’ll stick to older, lighter games.
Are you replaying Witcher 3 while you wait?
